We’re continuing this week to profile the very successful social work awards hosted by the Northern Health and Social Care Trust in The Great Hall, Galgorm Resort on 09 March 2018.

Adult Services - Probation Board for Northern Ireland (PBNI), The Probation Service’s Domestic Abuse Team
The Probation Service’s Domestic Abuse Team works with male perpetrators of domestic abuse to tackle the underlying causes of their offending behaviour. The team have been involved in the development and implementation of a number of new innovative projects, including the establishment of a Domestic Abuse Court and the Western Trust Domestic Abuse Programme.
Partnership Team of the Year - Northern Health and Social Care Trust, Family First Project
The Family First Project works in partnership with Women’s Aid and the NHSCT Family Intervention teams across Antrim, Ballymena, Carrickfergus, Larne and Newtownabbey (ABCLN) and supports mothers and children who have experienced (or currently experience) domestic violence. The vision for the partnership is to build on the working relationship with social workers and staff in Women’s Aid and to have a coordinated response to the women and their children that will promote very positive outcomes.
Adult Services Social Worker of the Year, Deirdre McKenna, Senior Social Work Practitioner, Palliative Care, Southern Health & Social Care Trust
Deirdre has been instrumental in promoting Advance Care planning helping people express their wishes regarding how and where they are cared for following a palliative diagnosis. Deirdre developed an initiative called the Heart of Living and Dying. In skilled hands people were able to open up to think and plan for death, in a supportive environment.
